April Vacation with Doc and Cece

Last week was awesome!  Trey had his week long April vacation and Doc and Cece came to stay with us.  It was amazing to finally have them up here and show them where we live and spend some quality time with them.  We hit the ground running the first few days but then we did so many touristy-type things we kinda wore ourselves out.  It didn’t help that Doc and Cece had been driving for two days straight to reach us and it rained most of the week either!  Poor Jeffrey had to work all week but the rest of us went to the Boston Science Museum, Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market, the U.S.S. Constitution, the Mapparium, on a Duck Tour and a day trip to Maine.  At the science museum we saw the lightning show (again) and saw a show in the new and improved planetarium.  I wasn’t all that impressed with the planetarium show but at least it was very educational…..and allowed Doc and Cece time for a cat nap.

The Mapparium was kinda interesting. It’s this huge stained glass globe that has a bridge through the middle of it and you walk through.  And I’m not sure what else to say about it though the picture on the sign behind Trey is a pretty good representation.  I’m glad we went though and Trey had a great time following the “clues” (aka- signs) to get there.

Seeing the U.S.S. Constitution was a great experience.  It was a pretty chilly day and we had to wait outside for a while but seeing “Old Ironside” with my parents and little guy was pretty nice. 🙂

The Duck Tour was the most touristy type thing we did but it was so worth it.  Our driver was quite the entertainer and kept us laughing the whole way.  Trey especially liked the not-so-funny jokes he told and yelling “boo” after every one!

For some reason, my dad has always wanted to go to Maine.  Since we were so close we figured why not?!  We took off on Friday and took the windy, coastal route and enjoyed seeing all of the neat, old towns on the way.  We stopped along the way for some lobster rolls at a place by the water and Trey and Doc climbed up and down and up and down and up and down the rocks at the water’s edge.  We made it all the way to Portland, Maine before heading back for an awesome dinner and finally home.  Don’t you just love Trey’s face here.  He didn’t want to take this picture he just wanted to climb!

Beside his mission to make it to Maine my dad’s other goal was to eat at as many restaurants from the show “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.”  I think we put a pretty good dent in the list!  The first place was a burger joint called Mr. Bartley’s Gourmet Burgers near Harvard Square.  Jeffrey actually got to join us for that after work one day.  These guys sure enjoyed it!

Yum!!!  I think he ate every bite of his burger.  Not something he usually does!

God is so good!  I am so thankful that my parents were able to come visit for the week, and just a few days after Trey’s birthday so they got to give him his present in person!  It was sad to see them go but Trey had to go back to school and Doc and Cece had places to be.  I have a few more pictures to share but they are still on the camera at the moment so stayed tuned!
